Exodus 20:4-6, Idolatry leads to continuing Divine discipline.  “Visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me” = cursing by association = continuing Divine Discipline because idolaters beget idolaters.  Idolatry is a volitional disobedience to the Divine provision of God consciousness.  The discipline can be turned to blessing by believing in the God of the
Bible instead of idols. Divine discipline for idolatry = God’s tough love for idolaters. See the God consciousness in Psalm 19:1, Ecclesiastes 3:11, Job 37:7, and Romans 1:18-32.

Deuteronomy 7:9-10, “who keeps His covenant and His lovingkindness to a thousandth generation with those who love Him and keep His commandments” = Divine blessing for spiritual objectivity.
