Biblical Concept: Sword
Observation:
What a contrast is God’s love and God’s sword.
(Parentheses
are mine.)
Genesis 3:24 24 So
He drove the man out; and at the east of the garden of Eden He stationed the
cherubim, and the flaming sword which turned every direction, to guard the way
to the tree of life.
Exodus 17:13-16 13 So
Joshua overwhelmed Amalek and his people with the edge
of the sword. 14 Then the
LORD said to Moses, "Write this in a book as a memorial, and recite it to
Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek
from under heaven." 15
And Moses built an altar, and named it The LORD is My Banner; 16 and he said, "The LORD has
sworn; the LORD will have war against Amalek from
generation to generation."
Exodus 22:20-24 20
"He who sacrifices to any god, other than to the LORD alone, shall be
utterly destroyed. 21
"And you shall not wrong a stranger or oppress him, for you were strangers
in the land of Egypt. 22
"You shall not afflict any widow or orphan. 23 "If you afflict him at
all, and if he does cry out to Me, I
will surely hear his cry; 24
and My anger will be kindled, and I will kill you with the sword; and your
wives shall become widows and your children fatherless.
Exodus 32:25-35 25 Now
when Moses saw that the people were out of control-- for Aaron had let them get
out of control to be a derision among their enemies-- 26 then Moses stood in the gate of
the camp, and said, "Whoever is for the LORD, come to me!" And all the sons of Levi gathered together to
him. 27 And he said to them,
"Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, 'Every man of you put his sword upon his thigh, and go back and forth from
gate to gate in the camp, and kill every man his brother, and every man his
friend, and every man his neighbor.'"
28 So the sons of Levi did as Moses instructed, and about
three thousand men of the people fell that day.
29 Then Moses said, "Dedicate yourselves today to the
LORD-- for every man has been against his son and against his brother-- in
order that He may bestow a blessing upon you today." 30 And it came about on the next
day that Moses said to the people, "You yourselves have committed a great
sin; and now I am going up to the LORD, perhaps I can make atonement for your
sin." 31 Then Moses
returned to the LORD, and said, "Alas, this people has committed a great
sin, and they have made a god of gold for themselves. 32 "But now, if Thou wilt,
forgive their sin-- and if not, please blot me out from Thy book which Thou
hast written!" 33 And
the LORD said to Moses, "Whoever has sinned against Me, I will blot him
out of My book. 34 "But
go now, lead the people where I told you. Behold, My angel shall go before you;
nevertheless in the day when I punish, I will punish them for their
sin." 35 Then the LORD
smote the people, because of what they did with the calf which Aaron had made.
Leviticus 26:1-9 1 'You shall
not make for yourselves idols, nor shall you set up for yourselves an image or
a sacred pillar, nor shall you place
a figured stone in your land to bow down to it; for I am the LORD your
God. 2 'You shall keep My sabbaths and reverence My sanctuary; I am the LORD. 3 'If you walk in My statutes and
keep My commandments so as to carry them out,
4 then I shall give you rains in their season, so that the
land will yield its produce and the trees of the field will bear their
fruit. 5 'Indeed, your
threshing will last for you until grape gathering, and grape gathering will
last until sowing time. You will thus eat your food to the full and live
securely in your land. 6 'I
shall also grant peace in the land, so that you may lie down with no one making
you tremble. I shall also eliminate
harmful beasts from the land, and no sword will pass through your land. 7 'But you will chase your
enemies, and they will fall before you by the sword; 8 five of you will chase a
hundred, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand, and your enemies will
fall before you by the sword. 9
'So I will turn toward you and make you fruitful and multiply you, and I will
confirm My covenant with you.
Deuteronomy 13:12-16 12
"If you hear in one of your cities, which the LORD your God is giving you
to live in, anyone saying that
13 some worthless men have gone out from among you and have
seduced the inhabitants of their city, saying, 'Let us go and serve other gods'
(whom you have not known), 14
then you shall investigate and search out and inquire thoroughly. And if it is
true and the matter established that
this abomination has been done among you,
15 you shall surely strike the inhabitants of that city with
the edge of the sword, utterly destroying it and all that is in it and its
cattle with the edge of the sword. 16
"Then you shall gather all its booty into the middle of its open square
and burn the city and all its booty with fire as a whole burnt offering to the
LORD your God; and it shall be a ruin forever. It shall never be rebuilt.
Joshua 5:13-15 13 Now
it came about when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and
looked, and behold, a man was standing opposite him with his sword drawn in his
hand, and Joshua went to him and said to him, "Are you for us or for our
adversaries?" 14 And he
said, "No, rather I indeed come now as
captain of the host of the LORD." And Joshua fell on his face to the
earth, and bowed down, and said to him, "What has my lord to say to his
servant?" 15 And the
captain of the LORD's host said to Joshua, "Remove your sandals from your
feet, for the place where you are standing is holy." And Joshua did so.
Joshua performs sword genocide, on Canaanite Kingdoms:
Joshua
10:28 28 Now Joshua captured Makkedah on that day, and struck it and its king with the
edge of the sword; he utterly destroyed it and every person who was in it. He
left no survivor. Thus he did to the king of Makkedah
just as he had done to the king of Jericho.
Joshua
10:29-30 29 Then Joshua and all Israel with
him passed on from Makkedah to Libnah,
and fought against Libnah. 30 And the LORD gave it also with
its king into the hands of Israel, and he struck it and every person who was in it with the edge of the sword. He
left no survivor in it. Thus he did to its king just as he had done to the king
of Jericho.
Joshua
10:32 32 And the LORD gave Lachish into
the hands of Israel; and he captured it on the second day, and struck it and
every person who was in it with the
edge of the sword, according to all that he had done to Libnah.
Joshua
10:33 33 Then Horam
king of Gezer came up to help Lachish, and Joshua defeated him and his people
until he had left him no survivor. (Genocide on Gezer comes
years later: 1 Kings 9:16 16 For Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up and captured Gezer, and
burned it with fire, and killed the Canaanites who lived in the city, and had
given it as a dowry to his daughter,
Solomon's wife.)
Joshua
10:34-35 34 And Joshua and all Israel with
him passed on from Lachish to Eglon, and they camped
by it and fought against it. 35
And they captured it on that day and struck it with the edge of the sword; and
he utterly destroyed that day every person who was in it, according to all that he had done to Lachish.
Joshua
10:36-37 36 Then Joshua and all Israel with
him went up from Eglon to Hebron, and they fought
against it. 37 And they
captured it and struck it and its king and all its cities and all the persons
who were in it with the edge of the
sword. He left no survivor, according to all that he had done to Eglon. And he utterly destroyed it and every person who was in it.
Joshua
10:38-43 38 Then Joshua and all Israel with
him returned to Debir, and they fought against
it. 39 And he captured it and
its king and all its cities, and they struck them with the edge of the sword,
and utterly destroyed every person who
was in it. He left no survivor. Just as he had done to Hebron, so he did to
Debir and its king, as he had also done to Libnah and its king.
40 Thus Joshua struck all the land, the hill country and the
Negev and the lowland and the slopes and all their kings. He left no survivor,
but he utterly destroyed all who breathed, just as the LORD, the God of Israel,
had commanded. 41 And Joshua
struck them from Kadesh-barnea even as far as Gaza,
and all the country of Goshen even as far as Gibeon. 42 And Joshua captured all these
kings and their lands at one time, because the LORD, the God of Israel, fought
for Israel. 43 So Joshua and
all Israel with him returned to the camp at Gilgal.
Joshua 12:24b summarizes the sword genocide
of Joshua on Canaanite kingdoms: “in
all, thirty-one kings.” (See: Biblical
Concept: Manifest Destiny.)
Judges 3:20-21 20 And
Ehud came to him while he was sitting alone in his cool roof chamber. And Ehud
said, "I have a message from God for you." And he arose from his
seat. 21 And Ehud stretched
out his left hand, took the sword from his right thigh and thrust it into his
belly. (Ehud, God’s deliverer from the Moabites, sword kills Eglon the king of Moab.)
Judges 4:14-16 14 And
Deborah said to Barak, "Arise! For this is the day in which the LORD has
given Sisera into your hands; behold, the LORD has
gone out before you." So Barak went down from Mount Tabor with ten
thousand men following him. 15
And the LORD routed Sisera and all his chariots and all his army, with the edge of the sword
before Barak; and Sisera alighted from his chariot and fled away on foot. 16 But Barak pursued the chariots
and the army as far as Harosheth-hagoyim, and all the
army of Sisera fell by the edge of the sword; not
even one was left.
Judges 20:35 35 And
the LORD struck Benjamin before Israel, so that the sons of Israel destroyed
25,100 men of Benjamin that day, all who draw the sword.
2 Samuel 12:10 10 'Now
therefore, the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have
despised Me and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.'
2 Kings 19:7 7
"Behold, I will put a spirit in him so that he shall hear a rumor and
return to his own land. And I will make him fall by the sword in his own
land."'" (God of Sennacherib king of Assyria.) (Isaiah 37:7, 38)
1 Chronicles 21:16 16 Then
David lifted up his eyes and saw the angel of the LORD standing between earth
and heaven, with his drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then
David and the elders, covered with sackcloth, fell on their faces. (1 Chronicles 21:1 Then Satan stood up against Israel and moved
David to number Israel.)
1 Chronicles 21:27-30 27 And
the LORD commanded the angel, and he put his sword back in its sheath. 28 At that time, when David saw
that the LORD had answered him on the threshing floor of Ornan
the Jebusite, he offered sacrifice there. 29 For the tabernacle of the LORD,
which Moses had made in the wilderness, and the altar of burnt offering were in the high place at Gibeon at that
time. 30 But David could not
go before it to inquire of God, for he was terrified by the sword of the angel
of the LORD.
2 Chronicles 32:21 21 And
the LORD sent an angel who destroyed every mighty warrior, commander and
officer in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned in shame to his own
land. And when he had entered the temple of his god, some of his own children
killed him there with the sword.
Job 36:10-12 10
"And He opens their ear to instruction, And commands that they return from
evil. 11 "If they hear
and serve Him, They shall end their
days in prosperity, And their years in pleasures. 12 "But if they do not hear,
they shall perish by the sword, And they shall die without knowledge. (Elihu of God.)
Psalm 44:3 3 For
by their own sword they did not possess the land; And their own arm did not
save them; But Thy right hand, and Thine arm, and the
light of Thy presence, For Thou didst favor them.
Psalm 149:6 6 Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, And a two-edged sword
in their hand, (Take that you religious pacifists who are destroying America.) (Take
that you religious types who distort the Sermon on the Mount—Sermon on the Mount Saps—who are fiscally destroying our country.)
Proverbs 5:4 4 But in the end she is bitter as wormwood, Sharp as a two-edged sword. (The context, chapter 5, concerns those caught by the pleasures of adultery. Sadly, she / they can vote in our culture. “She does not know” is beginning to dominate our culture.)
Proverbs 12:18 18
There is one who speaks rashly like the thrusts of a sword, But the tongue of
the wise brings healing.
Song of Solomon 3:8 8
"All of them are wielders of the sword, Expert in war; Each man has his
sword at his side, Guarding against
the terrors of the night. (The context is protecting Solomon’s wedding limo.)
Isaiah 1:20 20
"But if you refuse and rebel, You will be devoured by the sword."
Truly, the mouth of the LORD has spoken.
(Read chapter one and see if any might apply to the Heritage Nation
America?)
Isaiah 2:4 4 And
He will judge between the nations, And will render decisions for many peoples; And they will hammer their swords into plowshares,
and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not lift up sword against nation,
And never again will they learn war. (The Millennial rule of Jesus Christ--no
swords needed.)
Isaiah 34:5-6 5 For
My sword is satiated in heaven, Behold it shall descend for judgment upon Edom,
And upon the people whom I have devoted to destruction. 6 The sword of the LORD is filled
with blood, It is sated with fat, with the blood of lambs and goats, With the
fat of the kidneys of rams. For the LORD has a sacrifice in Bozrah,
And a great slaughter in the land of Edom.
Isaiah 41:2 2
"Who has aroused one from the east Whom He calls in righteousness to His
feet? He delivers up nations before him, And subdues kings. He makes them like
dust with his sword, As the wind-driven chaff with his bow.
Isaiah 65:12 12 I
will destine you for the sword, And all of you shall bow down to the slaughter.
Because I called, but you did not answer; I spoke, but you did not hear. And
you did evil in My sight, And chose that in which I did not delight."
Isaiah 66:14-16 14 Then
you shall see this, and your heart
shall be glad, And your bones shall flourish like the new grass; And the hand
of the LORD shall be made known to His servants, But He shall be indignant
toward His enemies. 15 For
behold, the LORD will come in fire And His chariots like the whirlwind, To
render His anger with fury, And His rebuke with flames of fire. 16 For the LORD will execute
judgment by fire And by His sword on all flesh, And those slain by the LORD
will be many.

Jeremiah 14:16 16
"The people also to whom they are prophesying will be thrown out into the
streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; and there will be no
one to bury them-- neither them, nor their wives, nor their sons, nor
their daughters-- for I shall pour out their own wickedness on them.
Jeremiah 18:21 21
Therefore, give their children over to famine, And deliver them up to the power
of the sword; And let their wives become childless and widowed. Let their men
also be smitten to death, Their young men struck down by the sword in battle.
Jeremiah 25:31 31 'A
clamor has come to the end of the earth, Because the LORD has a controversy
with the nations. He is entering into judgment with all flesh; As for the
wicked, He has given them to the sword,' declares the LORD."
Jeremiah 27:8 8
"And it will be, that the nation
or the kingdom which will not serve him, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and
which will not put its neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, I will
punish that nation with the sword, with famine, and with pestilence,"
declares the LORD, "until I have destroyed it by his hand. (Context: Jeremiah
27:5-7 5
"I have made the earth, the men and the beasts which are on the face of
the earth by My great power and by My outstretched arm, and I will give it to
the one who is pleasing in My sight. 6
"And now I have given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king
of Babylon, My servant, and I have given him also the wild animals of the field
to serve him. 7 "And all
the nations shall serve him, and his son, and his grandson, until the time of
his own land comes; then many nations and great kings will make him their
servant. See also Daniel
4:37 37
"Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise, exalt, and honor the King of heaven, for all
His works are true and His ways just, and He is able to humble those who walk
in pride.")
Jeremiah 38:2 2

have his own life as booty and stay
alive.'

you will have your own life as booty,
because you have trusted in Me," declares the LORD.'"
Jeremiah 46:10 10 For
that day belongs to the Lord God of hosts, A day of vengeance, so as to avenge
Himself on His foes; And the sword will devour and be satiated And drink its
fill of their blood; For there will be a slaughter for the Lord God of hosts,
In the land of the north by the river Euphrates.
Jeremiah 47:6-7 6
"Ah, sword of the LORD, How long will you not be quiet? Withdraw into your
sheath; Be at rest and stay still. 7
"How can it be quiet, When the LORD has given it an order? Against
Ashkelon and against the seacoast-- There He has assigned it."
Jeremiah 50:35 35
"A sword against the Chaldeans," declares the LORD, "And against
the inhabitants of Babylon, And against her officials and her wise men!

pestilence that they may tell all their abominations among the nations where
they go, and may know that I am the LORD."
Ezekiel 24:21 21
'Speak to the house of Israel, "Thus says the Lord God, 'Behold, I am
about to profane My sanctuary, the pride of your power, the desire of your
eyes, and the delight of your soul; and your sons and your daughters whom you
have left behind will fall by the sword.
Ezekiel 30:24-26 24 'For
I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon and put My sword in his hand;
and I will break the arms of Pharaoh, so that he will groan before him with the
groanings of a wounded man. 25 'Thus I will strengthen the arms
of the king of Babylon, but the arms of Pharaoh will fall. Then they will know
that I am the LORD, when I put My sword into the hand of the king of Babylon
and he stretches it out against the land of Egypt. 26 'When I scatter the Egyptians
among the nations and disperse them among the lands, then they will know that I
am the LORD.'"
Ezekiel 39:23 23
"And the nations will know that the house of Israel went into exile for
their iniquity because they acted treacherously against Me, and I hid My face

fell by the sword.

field, The birds of the sky, And the creeping things of the ground. And I will
abolish the bow, the sword, and war from the land, And will make them lie down
in safety. 19 "And I
will betroth you to Me forever; Yes, I will betroth you to Me in righteousness
and in justice, In lovingkindness and in
compassion, 20 And I will
betroth you to Me in faithfulness. Then you will know the LORD.
Hosea 13:16 16
Samaria will be held guilty, For she has rebelled against her God. They will
fall by the sword, Their little ones will be dashed in pieces, And their
pregnant women will be ripped open.
Amos 4:10 10
"I sent a plague among you after the manner of Egypt; I slew your young
men by the sword along with your captured horses, And I made the stench of your
camp rise up in your nostrils; Yet you have not returned to Me," declares
the LORD.
Amos 9:4 4
"And though they go into captivity before their enemies, From there I will
command the sword that it slay them, And I will set My eyes against them for
evil and not for good."
Amos 9:10 10
"All the sinners of My people will die by the sword, Those who say, 'The
calamity will not overtake or confront us.'
Micah 4:1-7 1 And it will
come about in the last days That the mountain of the house of the LORD Will be
established as the chief of the mountains. It will be raised above the hills,
And the peoples will stream to it. 2
And many nations will come and say, "Come and let us go up to the mountain
of the LORD And to the house of the God of Jacob, That He may teach us about
His ways And that we may walk in His paths." For from Zion will go forth
the law, Even the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. 3 And He will judge between many
peoples And render decisions for mighty, distant nations. Then they will hammer
their swords into plowshares And their spears into pruning hooks; Nation will
not lift up sword against nation, And never again will they train for war. 4 And each of them will sit under
his vine And under his fig tree, With no one to make them afraid, For the mouth of the LORD of hosts has spoken. 5 Though all the peoples walk Each
in the name of his god, As for us, we will walk In the name of the LORD our God
forever and ever. 6 "In
that day," declares the LORD, "I will assemble the lame, And gather
the outcasts, Even those whom I have afflicted.
7 "I will make the lame a remnant, And the outcasts a
strong nation, And the LORD will reign over them in Mount Zion From now on and
forever.
Nahum 2:13 13
"Behold, I am against you," declares the LORD of hosts. "I will
burn up her chariots in smoke, a sword will devour your young lions, I will cut
off your prey from the land, and no longer will the voice of your messengers be
heard." (For the city of Nineveh.)
Zephaniah 2:8-13 8
"I have heard the taunting of Moab And the revilings
of the sons of Ammon, With which they have taunted My
people And become arrogant against their territory. 9 "Therefore, as I
live," declares the LORD of hosts, The God of Israel, "Surely Moab
will be like Sodom, And the sons of Ammon like
Gomorrah-- A place possessed by nettles and salt pits, And a perpetual
desolation. The remnant of My people will plunder them, And the remainder of My
nation will inherit them." 10
This they will have in return for their pride, because they have taunted and
become arrogant against the people of the LORD of hosts. 11 The LORD will be terrifying to
them, for He will starve all the gods of the earth; and all the coastlands of
the nations will bow down to Him, everyone from his own place. 12
"You also, O Ethiopians, will be slain by My sword." 13 And He will stretch out His
hand against the north And destroy Assyria, And He will make Nineveh a
desolation, Parched like the wilderness.
Haggai 2:22 22
'And I will overthrow the thrones of kingdoms and destroy the power of the
kingdoms of the nations; and I will overthrow the chariots and their riders,
and the horses and their riders will go down, everyone by the sword of
another.'
Matthew 10:34 34
"Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to
bring peace, but a sword.
Matthew 26:52 52 Then
Jesus said to him, "Put your sword back into its place; for all those who
take up the sword shall perish by the sword. (For those who use verses like
this to promote pacifism, start in Teheran, Iran, etc.) (The context / situation is the unique arrest
of Jesus Christ. See: Matthew 26:45-56 45
Then He came to the disciples, and said to them, "Are you still sleeping
and taking your rest? Behold, the hour is at hand and the Son of Man is being
betrayed into the hands of sinners. 46
"Arise, let us be going; behold, the one who betrays Me is at
hand!" 47 And while He
was still speaking, behold, Judas, one of the twelve, came up, accompanied by a
great multitude with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and elders of the
people. 48 Now he who was
betraying Him gave them a sign, saying, "Whomever I shall kiss, He is the
one; seize Him." 49 And
immediately he went to Jesus and said, "Hail, Rabbi!" and kissed
Him. 50 And Jesus said to
him, "Friend, do what you have
come for." Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and seized Him. 51 And behold, one of those who
were with Jesus reached and drew out his sword, and struck the slave of the
high priest, and cut off his ear. 52
Then Jesus said to him, "Put your sword back into its place; for all those
who take up the sword shall perish by the sword. 53 "Or do you think that I
cannot appeal to My Father, and He will at once put at My disposal more than
twelve legions of angels? 54
"How then shall the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must happen this
way?" 55 At that time
Jesus said to the multitudes, "Have you come out with swords and clubs to
arrest Me as against a robber? Every day I used to sit in the temple teaching
and you did not seize Me. 56
"But all this has taken place that the Scriptures of the prophets may be
fulfilled." Then all the disciples left Him and fled.) Compare: Luke 22:36-38
36
And He said to them, "But now, let him who has a purse take it along,
likewise also a bag, and let him who has no sword sell his robe and buy one. 37
"For I tell you, that this which is written must be fulfilled in Me, 'And
He was numbered with transgressors'; for that which refers to Me has its fulfillment." 38 And they said, "Lord,
look, here are two swords." And He said to them, "It is enough." Luke 22:48-51 48 But Jesus
said to him, "Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a
kiss?" 49 And when those
who were around Him saw what was going to happen, they said, "Lord, shall
we strike with the sword?" 50
And a certain one of them struck the slave of the high priest and cut off his
right ear. 51 But Jesus
answered and said, "Stop! No more of this." And He touched his ear
and healed him. John 18:10-11 10
Simon Peter therefore having a sword, drew it, and struck the high priest's
slave, and cut off his right ear; and the slave's name was Malchus. 11 Jesus therefore said to Peter,
"Put the sword into the sheath; the cup which the Father has given Me,
shall I not drink it?"
Luke 2:34-35 34 And
Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary His mother, "Behold, this Child is appointed for the fall and rise
of many in Israel, and for a sign to be opposed-- 35 and a sword will pierce even
your own soul-- to the end that thoughts from many hearts may be
revealed." (Devout Simeon to Jesus’
mother Mary.)
Luke 21:24 24 and
they will fall by the edge of the sword, and will be led captive into all the
nations; and Jerusalem will be trampled under foot by
the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.
Romans 8:35-39 35 Who
shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or
persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 Just as it is written,
"For Thy sake we are being put to death all day long; We were considered
as sheep to be slaughtered." 37
But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved
us. 38 For I am convinced
that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things
present, nor things to come, nor powers,
39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall
be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 13:4 4 for
it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid;
for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an
avenger who brings wrath upon the one who practices evil.
Ephesians 6:17 17 And
take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of
God.
Hebrews 4:12 12 For
the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and
piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow,
and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Hebrews 11:32-40 32 And
what more shall I say? For time will fail me if I tell of Gideon, Barak,
Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the
prophets, 33 who by faith
conquered kingdoms, performed acts of righteousness,
obtained promises, shut the mouths of lions,
34 quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword,
from weakness were made strong, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to
flight. 35 Women received back their dead by resurrection; and
others were tortured, not accepting their release, in order that they might
obtain a better resurrection; 36
and others experienced mockings and scourgings, yes, also chains and imprisonment. 37 They were stoned, they were
sawn in two, they were tempted, they were put to death with the sword;
they went about in sheepskins, in goatskins, being destitute, afflicted,
ill-treated 38 (men of whom the world was not worthy),
wandering in deserts and mountains and caves and holes in the ground. 39 And all these, having gained
approval through their faith, did not receive what was promised, 40 because God had provided
something better for us, so that apart from us they should not be made perfect.
Revelation 2:16 16
'Repent therefore; or else I am coming to you quickly, and I will make war
against them with the sword of My mouth.
Revelation 6:4 4 And
another, a red horse, went out; and to him who sat on it, it was granted to
take peace from the earth, and that men should
slay one another; and a great sword was given to him.
Revelation 19:15-21 15 And
from His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may smite the
nations; and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press
of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty.
16 And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written,
"KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS."
17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried out
with a loud voice, saying to all the birds which fly in midheaven,
"Come, assemble for the great supper of God; 18 in order that you may eat the
flesh of kings and the flesh of commanders and the flesh of mighty men and the
flesh of horses and of those who sit on them and the flesh of all men, both
free men and slaves, and small and great."
19 And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their
armies, assembled to make war against Him who sat upon the horse, and against
His army. 20 And the beast
was seized, and with him the false prophet who performed the signs in his presence,
by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who
worshiped his image; these two were thrown alive into the lake of fire which
burns with brimstone. 21 And
the rest were killed with the sword which came from the mouth of Him who
sat upon the horse, and all the birds were filled with their flesh.
Swords
Joel 3:9-13 9
Proclaim this among the nations: Prepare a war; rouse the mighty men! Let all
the soldiers draw near, let them come up!
10 Beat your plowshares into swords, And your pruning hooks
into spears; Let the weak say, "I am a mighty man." 11 Hasten and come, all you
surrounding nations, And gather yourselves there. Bring down, O LORD, Thy
mighty ones. 12 Let the
nations be aroused And come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat, For there I will
sit to judge All the surrounding nations.
13 Put in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe. Come, tread,
for the wine press is full; The vats overflow, for their wickedness is great.
Micah 4:3 3 And
He will judge between many peoples And render decisions for mighty, distant
nations. Then they will hammer their swords into plowshares And their spears
into pruning hooks; Nation will not lift up sword against nation, And never
again will they train for war.
Nahum 3:1-7 1 Woe
to the bloody city, completely full of lies and
pillage; Her prey never
departs. 2 The noise of the
whip, The noise of the rattling of the wheel, Galloping horses, And bounding
chariots! 3 Horsemen
charging, Swords flashing, spears gleaming, Many slain, a mass of
corpses, And countless dead bodies-- They stumble over the dead bodies! 4 All because of the many harlotries of the harlot, The charming one,
the mistress of sorceries, Who sells nations by her harlotries And families by
her sorceries. 5
"Behold, I am against you," declares the LORD of hosts; "And I
will lift up your skirts over your face, And show to the nations your nakedness
And to the kingdoms your disgrace. 6
"I will throw filth on you And make you vile, And set you up as a
spectacle. 7 "And it
will come about that all who see you Will shrink from you and say, 'Nineveh is
devastated! Who will grieve for her?' Where will I seek comforters for
you?"
