Biblical Concept: Spirit

Findings:

“Spirit” denotes One of the Members of the Triune God of the Bible (1 Peter 1:2, Ephesians 4:30). Very numerous New Testament references to the efforts of the Holy Spirit on behalf of Christ believing humanity, suggests that the Church Age is also the age of the Holy Spirit. (John 14:26 “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.”)

In the Old Testament, the empowering of individuals by the Holy Spirit is noted (Exodus 31:3, Numbers 11:25-26, Numbers 24:2, Numbers 27:18, Judges 6:34, 1 Samuel 10:6, etc.).

In prophetic Biblical writings (Great Tribulation and Millennium), the Holy Spirit is observed to indwell / empower large groups of people (Isaiah 32:15, Isaiah 44:3, Ezekiel 36:26-27, Ezekiel 39:29, Joel 2:28-29, etc.).

Those accountable for prophetic Biblical writings are noted as having special spiritual encounters with the Holy Spirit and their human spirit (Ezekiel 2:2, Ezekiel 3:12-14, Ezekiel 8:3, Ezekiel 43:5, Zechariah 7:12, Revelation 4:2, Revelation 17:3, Revelation 21:10, etc.) ( 2 Peter 1:21 for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.).

Man, in the image of God, is an interestingly complex spirit being. See Biblical Concept: Man, The Immaterial Part.

Man being a spiritual being results in a pantheon of religions (1 John 4:1-3, 1 Timothy 4:1; plus even a fleeting glance at human history). (Contrast: ^NAS John 4:23 "But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. ²⁴ "God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.")

Spirit emotion connection. (Psalm 34:18 The LORD is near to the brokenhearted, And saves those who are crushed in spirit. Proverbs 17:22 A joyful heart is good medicine, But a broken spirit dries up the bones. Etc.)

Spirit and heart are repeatedly interacting (Proverbs 15:13, etc.).

Spirit and soul and body (1 Thessalonians 5:23).

Soul, spirit, heart (Hebrews 4:12).

Spirit and human life:

Psalm 104:29 Thou dost hide Thy face, they are dismayed; Thou dost take away their spirit, they expire, And return to their dust. 30 Thou dost send forth Thy Spirit, they are created; And Thou dost renew the face of the ground.

Psalm 146:4 His spirit departs, he returns to the earth; In that very day his thoughts perish.

Ecclesiastes 12:7 then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it.

James 2:26 For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.

Zechariah 12:1 The burden of the word of the LORD concerning Israel. Thus declares the LORD who stretches out the heavens, lays the foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit of man within him,

Isaiah 42:5 Thus says God the LORD, Who created the heavens and stretched them out, Who spread out the earth and its offspring, Who gives breath to the people on it, And spirit to those who walk in it,

Job 34:14 "If He should determine to do so, If He should gather to Himself His spirit and His breath, 15 All flesh would perish together, And man would return to dust.

Holy Spirit and Human Spirit:

At the point eternal salvation, the Holy Spirit permanently indwells the human’s inner man, resuscitating the dead spirit. Compare Ephesians 2:1-5 with 1 Corinthians 2:10-14 with Romans 8:10. It would appear, then, that the Holy Spirit indwells with an emphasis on the human’s spirit. Romans 8:16 says; “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.”

Because humans have a sin nature from birth, and God has no part of sin, perhaps the Holy Spirit indwells the human’s spirit as a safe haven?

1 Peter 3:4 but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God.

1 John 4:6 We are from God; he who knows God listens to us; he who is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.

The world system has its own spirit (1 Corinthians 2:12a, Ephesians 2:1-3).

There are plenty of deceitful, evil, spirits mentioned (1 Timothy 4:1, Judges 9:23, 1 Samuel 16:13-23, 18:10, 19:9, 1 Kings 22:21-23, Zechariah 13:2, Matthew 12:43, Mark 1:23-26, Mark 5:2, 8; 7:25, 9:17, 20, 25; Luke 4:33, Luke 8:29, Luke 9:39-42, Luke 11:24, Luke 13:11, Acts 16:16-18, Acts 19:15-16, Ephesians 2:2, 2 Thessalonians 2:2, 1 Timothy 4:1, 1 John 4:1-6, and Revelation 18:2.).

^NAS Daniel 5:11 "There is a man in your kingdom in whom is a spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of your father, illumination, insight, and wisdom like the wisdom of the gods were found in him. And King Nebuchadnezzar, your father, your father the king, appointed him chief of the magicians, conjurers, Chaldeans, and diviners.

¹² "This was because an extraordinary spirit, knowledge and insight, interpretation of dreams, explanation of enigmas, and solving of difficult problems were found in this Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar. Let Daniel now be summoned, and he will declare the interpretation."

¹⁴ "Now I have heard about you that a spirit of the gods is in you, and that illumination, insight, and extraordinary wisdom have been found in you.

²⁰ "But when his heart was lifted up and his spirit became so proud that he behaved arrogantly, he was deposed from his royal throne, and his glory was taken away from him.

⁴³ "Now when the unclean spirit goes out of a man, it passes through waterless places, seeking rest, and does not find it.

^NAS Luke 9:39 and behold, a spirit seizes him, and he suddenly screams, and it throws him into a convulsion with foaming at the mouth, and as it mauls him, it scarcely leaves him.

¹⁷ 'And it shall be in the last days,' God says, 'That I will pour forth of My Spirit upon all mankind; And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, And your young men shall see visions, And your old men shall dream dreams;

¹⁸ Even upon My bondslaves, both men and women, I will in those days pour forth of My Spirit And they shall prophesy.

³³ "Therefore having been exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured forth this which you both see and hear.

³⁸ And Peter said to them, "Repent, and let each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

^NAS Acts 4:8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "Rulers and elders of the people,

²⁵ who by the Spirit, through the mouth of our father David Thy servant, didst say, 'Why did the Gentiles Holy rage, And the peoples devise futile things?

³¹ And when they had prayed, the place where they had gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak the word of God with boldness.

^NAS Acts 5:3 But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back some of the price of the land?

⁹ Then Peter said to her, "Why is it that you have agreed together to put the Spirit of the Lord to the test? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they shall carry you out as well."

³² "And we are witnesses of these things; and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey Him."

^NAS Acts 6:3 "But select from among you, brethren, seven men of good reputation, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may put in charge of this task.

⁵ And the statement found approval with the whole congregation; and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas and Nicolas, a proselyte from Antioch.

¹⁰ And yet they were unable to cope with the wisdom and the Spirit with which he was speaking.

^NAS Acts 7:51 "You men who are stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears are always resisting the Holy Spirit; you are doing just as your fathers did.

⁵⁵ But being full of the Holy Spirit, he gazed intently into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God;

⁵⁹ And they went on stoning Stephen as he called upon the Lord and said, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!"

^NAS Acts 8:15 who came down and prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit.

¹⁷ Then they began laying their hands on them, and they were receiving the Holy Spirit.

¹⁸ Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was bestowed through the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money,

¹⁹ saying, "Give this authority to me as well, so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit."

²⁹ And the Spirit said to Philip, "Go up and join this chariot."

³⁹ And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away; and the eunuch saw him no more, but went on his way rejoicing.

^NAS Acts 9:17 And Ananias departed and entered the house, and after laying his hands on him said, "Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road by which you were coming, has sent me so that you may regain your sight, and be filled with the Holy Spirit."

³¹ So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria enjoyed peace, being built up; and, going on in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it continued to increase.

^NAS Acts 10:19 And while Peter was reflecting on the vision, the Spirit said to him, "Behold, three men are looking for you.

³⁸ "You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how He went about doing good, and healing all who were oppressed by the devil; for God was with Him.

⁴⁴ While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who were listening to the message.

⁴⁵ And all the circumcised believers who had come with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out upon the Gentiles also.

⁴⁷ "Surely no one can refuse the water for these to be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we did, can he?"

^NAS Acts 11:12 "And the Spirit told me to go with them without misgivings. And these six brethren also went with me, and we entered the man's house.

¹⁵ "And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, just as He did upon us at the beginning.

¹⁶ "And I remembered the word of the Lord, how He used to say, 'John baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.'

²⁴ for he was a good man, and full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And considerable numbers were brought to the Lord.

²⁸ And one of them named Agabus stood up and began to indicate by the Spirit that there would certainly be a great famine all over the world. And this took place in the reign of Claudius.

^NAS Acts 13:2 And while they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them."

⁴ So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia and from there they sailed to Cyprus.

⁹ But Saul, who was also known as Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, fixed his gaze upon him,

⁵² And the disciples were continually filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.

^NAS Acts 15:8 "And God, who knows the heart, bore witness to them, giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He also did to us;

²⁸ "For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay upon you no greater burden than these essentials:

^NAS Acts 16:6 And they passed through the Phrygian and Galatian region, having been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia;

⁷ and when they had come to Mysia, they were trying to go into Bithynia, and the Spirit of Jesus did not permit them;

¹⁶ And it happened that as we were going to the place of prayer, a certain slave-girl having a spirit of divination met us, who was bringing her masters much profit by fortunetelling.

¹⁸ And she continued doing this for many days. But Paul was greatly annoyed, and turned and said to the spirit, "I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her!" And it came out at that very moment.

^NAS Acts 17:16 Now while Paul was waiting for them at Athens, his spirit was being provoked within him as he was beholding the city full of idols.

^NAS Acts 18:25 This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he was speaking and teaching accurately the things concerning Jesus, being acquainted only with the baptism of John;

^NAS Acts 19:2 and he said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" And they said to him, "No, we have not even heard whether there is a Holy Spirit."

⁶ And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking with tongues and prophesying.

¹⁵ And the evil spirit answered and said to them, "I recognize Jesus, and I know about Paul, but who are you?"

¹⁶ And the man, in whom was the evil spirit, leaped on them and subdued all of them and overpowered them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

²¹ Now after these things were finished, Paul purposed in the spirit to go to Jerusalem after he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, saying, "After I have been there, I must also see Rome."

^NAS Acts 20:22 "And now, behold, bound in spirit, I am on my way to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there,

²³ except that the Holy Spirit solemnly testifies to me in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions await me.

²⁸ "Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.

^NAS Acts 21:4 And after looking up the disciples, we stayed there seven days; and they kept telling Paul through the Spirit not to set foot in Jerusalem.

¹¹ And coming to us, he took Paul's belt and bound his own feet and hands, and said, "This is what the Holy Spirit says: 'In this way the Jews at Jerusalem will bind the man who owns this belt and deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.'"

^NAS Acts 23:8 For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, nor an angel, nor a spirit; but the Pharisees acknowledge them all.

⁹ And there arose a great uproar; and some of the scribes of the Pharisaic party stood up and began to argue heatedly, saying, "We find nothing wrong with this man; suppose a spirit or an angel has spoken to him?"

^NAS Acts 28:25 And when they did not agree with one another, they began leaving after Paul had spoken one parting word, "The Holy Spirit rightly spoke through Isaiah the prophet to your fathers,

^NAS Romans 1:4 who was declared the Son of God with power by the resurrection from the dead, according to the Spirit of holiness, Jesus Christ our Lord,

⁹ For God, whom I serve in my spirit in the preaching of the gospel of His Son, is my witness as to how unceasingly I make mention of you,

^NAS Romans 2:29 But he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that which is of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter; and his praise is not from men, but from God.

^NAS Romans 5:5 and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

^NAS Romans 7:6 But now we have been released from the Law, having died to that by which we were bound, so that we serve in newness of the Spirit and not in oldness of the letter.

^NAS Romans 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.

⁴ in order that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

⁵ For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.

⁶ For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace,

⁹ However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.

¹⁰ And if Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness.

¹¹ But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who indwells you.

¹³ for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

¹⁴ For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

¹⁵ For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, "Abba! Father!"

¹⁶ The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

²³ And not only this, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body.

²⁶ And in the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words;

²⁷ and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

^NAS Romans 9:1 I am telling the truth in Christ, I am not lying, my conscience bearing me witness in the Holy Spirit,

^NAS Romans 11:8 just as it is written, "God gave them a spirit of stupor, Eyes to see not and ears to hear not, Down to this very day."

^NAS Romans 12:11 not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord;

^NAS Romans 14:17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

¹⁶ to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles, ministering as a priest the gospel of God, that my offering of the Gentiles might become acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

¹⁹ in the power of signs and wonders, in the power of the Spirit; so that from Jerusalem and round about as far as Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.

^NAS 1 Corinthians 2:4 And my message and my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,

¹⁰ For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God.

¹¹ For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man, which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God.

¹² Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things freely given to us by God,

¹⁴ But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised.

^NAS 1 Corinthians 3:16 Do you not know that you are a temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?

^NAS 1 Corinthians 4:21 What do you desire? Shall I come to you with a rod or with love and a spirit of gentleness?

^NAS 1 Corinthians 5:3 For I, on my part, though absent in body but present in spirit, have already judged him who has so committed this, as though I were present.

⁴ In the name of our Lord Jesus, when you are assembled, and I with you in spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus,

⁵ I have decided to deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of his flesh, that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

^NAS 1 Corinthians 6:11 And such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and in the Spirit of our God.

¹⁷ But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him.

¹⁹ Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?

^NAS 1 Corinthians 7:34 and his interests are divided. And the woman who is unmarried, and the virgin, is concerned about the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and spirit; but one who is married is concerned about the things of the world, how she may please her husband.

⁴⁰ But in my opinion she is happier if she remains as she is; and I think that I also have the Spirit of God.

^NAS 1 Corinthians 12:3 Therefore I make known to you, that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus is accursed"; and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit.

⁴ Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit.

⁷ But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.

⁸ For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit;

⁹ to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit,

¹¹ But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills.

¹³ For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.

^NAS 1 Corinthians 14:2 For one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men, but to God; for no one understands, but in his spirit he speaks mysteries.

¹⁴ For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. (Mind spirit separation.)

¹⁵ What is the outcome then? I shall pray with the spirit and I shall pray with the mind also; I shall sing with the spirit and I shall sing with the mind also.

¹⁶ Otherwise if you bless in the spirit only, how will the one who fills the place of the ungifted say the "Amen " at your giving of thanks, since he does not know what you are saying?

^NAS 1 Corinthians 15:45 So also it is written, "The first man, Adam, became a living soul." The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.

^NAS 1 Corinthians 16:18 For they have refreshed my spirit and yours. Therefore acknowledge such men.

^NAS 2 Corinthians 1:22 who also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge.

^NAS 2 Corinthians 2:13 I had no rest for my spirit, not finding Titus my brother; but taking my leave of them, I went on to Macedonia.

^NAS 2 Corinthians 3:3 being manifested that you are a letter of Christ, cared for by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone, but on tablets of human hearts.

⁶ who also made us adequate as servants of a new covenant, not of the letter, but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

⁸ how shall the ministry of the Spirit fail to be even more with glory?

¹⁷ Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

¹⁸ But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.

^NAS 2 Corinthians 4:13 But having the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, "I believed, therefore I spoke," we also believe, therefore also we speak;

^NAS 2 Corinthians 5:5 Now He who prepared us for this very purpose is God, who gave to us the Spirit as a pledge.

^NAS 2 Corinthians 6:6 in purity, in knowledge, in patience, in kindness, in the Holy Spirit, in genuine love,

^NAS 2 Corinthians 7:1 Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

¹³ For this reason we have been comforted. And besides our comfort, we rejoiced even much more for the joy of Titus, because his spirit has been refreshed by you all.

^NAS 2 Corinthians 11:4 For if one comes and preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted, you bear this beautifully.

^NAS 2 Corinthians 12:18 I urged Titus to go, and sent the brother with him. Titus did not take any advantage of you, did he? Did we not conduct ourselves in the same spirit and walk in the same steps?

^NAS 2 Corinthians 13:14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.

^NAS Galatians 3:2 This is the only thing I want to find out from you: did you receive the Spirit by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith?

³ Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?

⁵ Does He then, who provides you with the Spirit and works miracles among you, do it by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith?

¹⁴ in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

^NAS Galatians 4:6 And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!"

²⁹ But as at that time he who was born according to the flesh persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, so it is now also.

^NAS Galatians 5:5 For we through the Spirit, by faith, are waiting for the hope of righteousness.

¹⁶ But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.

¹⁷ For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.

¹⁸ But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.

²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

²⁵ If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.

^NAS Galatians 6:1 Brethren, even if a man is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, lest you too be tempted.

⁸ For the one who sows to his own flesh shall from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit shall from the Spirit reap eternal life.

¹⁸ The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brethren. Amen.

^NAS Ephesians 1:13 In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation-- having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise,

¹⁷ that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him.

^NAS Ephesians 2:2 in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience.

¹⁸ for through Him we both have our access in one Spirit to the Father.

²² in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit.

^NAS Ephesians 3:5 which in other generations was not made known to the sons of men, as it has now been revealed to His holy apostles and prophets in the Spirit;

^NAS Ephesians 4:3 being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

⁴ There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling;

²³ and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind,

³⁰ And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

^NAS Ephesians 5:18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit,

^NAS Ephesians 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

¹⁸ With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints,

^NAS Philippians 1:19 For I know that this shall turn out for my deliverance through your prayers and the provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,

²⁷ Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ; so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;

^NAS Philippians 2:1 If therefore there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion,

² make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose.

²⁰ For I have no one else of kindred spirit who will genuinely be concerned for your welfare.

^NAS Philippians 3:3 for we are the true circumcision, who worship in the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh,

^NAS Philippians 4:5 Let your forbearing spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near.

^NAS Colossians 1:8 and he also informed us of your love in the Spirit.

^NAS Colossians 2:5 For even though I am absent in body, nevertheless I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good discipline and the stability of your faith in Christ.

^NAS 1 Thessalonians 1:5 for our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction; just as you know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake.

⁶ You also became imitators of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much tribulation with the joy of the Holy Spirit,

^NAS 1 Thessalonians 2:17 But we, brethren, having been bereft of you for a short while-- in person, not in spirit-- were all the more eager with great desire to see your face.

^NAS 1 Thessalonians 4:8 Consequently, he who rejects this is not rejecting man but the God who gives His Holy Spirit to you.

^NAS 1 Thessalonians 5:19 Do not quench the Spirit;

²³ Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

^NAS 2 Thessalonians 2:2 that you may not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come.

¹³ But we should always give thanks to God for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth.

^NAS 1 Timothy 3:16 And by common confession great is the mystery of godliness: He who was revealed in the flesh, Was vindicated in the Spirit, Beheld by angels, Proclaimed among the nations, Believed on in the world, Taken up in glory.

^NAS 1 Timothy 4:1 But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons,

^NAS 1 Timothy 5:21 I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus and of His chosen angels, to maintain these principles without bias, doing nothing in a spirit of partiality.

^NAS 2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline.

¹⁴ Guard, through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure which has been entrusted to you.

^NAS 2 Timothy 4:22 The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you.

^NAS Titus 3:5 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,

^NAS Hebrews 2:4 God also bearing witness with them, both by signs and wonders and by various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit according to His own will.

²⁹ How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?
