Biblical Concept: Son of God Purpose
1 John 3:8 8
the one who practices sin is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the
beginning. The Son of God appeared for this purpose, that He might destroy the
works of the devil.
Questions / Observations:
Who is this sinning
“devil”?
Ezekiel 28:12-19 12 "Son of man, take up a
lamentation over the king of Tyre, and say to him,
'Thus says the Lord God, "You had the seal of perfection, Full of wisdom
and perfect in beauty. 13
"You were in Eden, the garden of God; Every precious stone was your
covering: The ruby, the topaz, and the diamond; The beryl, the onyx, and the
jasper; The lapis lazuli, the turquoise, and the emerald; And the gold, the
workmanship of your settings and sockets, Was in you. On the day that you were
created They were prepared. 14
"You were the anointed cherub who covers, And I placed you there. You were on the holy mountain of
God; You walked in the midst of the stones of fire. 15 "You were blameless in
your ways From the day you were created, Until
unrighteousness was found in you. 16
"By the abundance of your trade You were internally filled with violence, And you sinned; Therefore I have cast you as profane From
the mountain of God. And I have destroyed you, O covering cherub, From the
midst of the stones of fire. 17
"Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty; You corrupted your
wisdom by reason of your splendor. I cast you to the ground; I put you before
kings, That they may see you. 18 "By the multitude of your
iniquities, In the unrighteousness of your trade, You
profaned your sanctuaries. Therefore I have brought
fire from the midst of you; It has consumed you, And I have turned you to ashes
on the earth In the eyes of all who see you.
19 "All who know you among the peoples Are appalled at
you; You have become terrified, And you will be no
more."'" (Heavenly angelic sinner.)
Isaiah 14:12-14 12 "How you have
fallen from heaven, O star of the morning, son of the dawn! You have been cut
down to the earth, You who have weakened the
nations! 13 "But you
said in your heart, 'I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the
stars of God, And I will sit on the mount of assembly In
the recesses of the north. 14
'I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.' (Earthly angelic sinner)
Job 1:6-7 6 Now there was a day when the
sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came
among them. 7 And the LORD
said to Satan, "From where do you come?" Then Satan answered the LORD
and said, "From roaming about on the earth and walking around on it."
(Earthly angelic sinner)
1 Peter 5:8-9 8 Be of sober spirit,
be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls about like a roaring lion,
seeking someone to devour. 9
But resist him, firm in your faith,
knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your
brethren who are in the world. (Earthly angelic sinner)
What is the
“beginning”?
Ezekiel 28:14-17 14 "You were the anointed cherub who covers,
And I placed you there. You were on
the holy mountain of God; You walked in the midst of the stones of fire. 15
"You were blameless in your ways From the day you
were created, Until unrighteousness was found in you. 16 "By
the abundance of your trade You were internally filled with violence, And you sinned; Therefore I have cast you as profane From
the mountain of God. And I have destroyed you, O covering cherub, From the
midst of the stones of fire. 17 "Your heart was lifted up
because of your beauty; You corrupted your wisdom by reason of your splendor. I
cast you to the ground; I put you before kings, That
they may see you. (Heavenly sinning beginning.)
Genesis 3:1-5 1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the LORD God
had made. And he said to the woman, "Indeed, has God said, 'You shall not
eat from any tree of the garden '?"
2 And the woman said to the serpent, "From the fruit of
the trees of the garden we may eat; 3
but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has
said, 'You shall not eat from it or touch it, lest you die.'" 4 And the serpent said to the
woman, "You surely shall not die! 5
"For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened,
and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." (Pre-humanity sinner.)
John 8:44 "You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a
murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is
no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature; for
he is a liar, and the father of lies. (Pre-humanity sinner.)
Who is the appearing
and destroying “Son of God”?
The Lord Jesus Christ.
“Appeared”
/ fanero,w / indicative aorist passive / “was sent” /
incarnate Jesus’ submission to the Father’s will / compare First John 4:9 - By this the love
of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the
world so that we might live through Him.
Isaiah 7:14 "Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a
sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His
name Immanuel. (God-Man)
Matthew 1:21-23 21 "And she will bear a Son;
and you shall call His name Jesus, for it is He who will save His people from
their sins." 22 Now all
this took place that what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet might be
fulfilled, saying, 23
"Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and shall bear a Son, and they
shall call His name Immanuel," which translated means, "God with
us." (God-Man-Savior)
Hebrews 2:5-10 5 For He did not subject to angels the world to
come, concerning which we are speaking. 6
But one has testified somewhere, saying, "What is man, that Thou rememberest him? Or the son of man, that Thou art concerned
about him? 7 "Thou hast
made him for a little while lower than the angels; Thou hast crowned him with
glory and honor, And hast appointed him over the works
of Thy hands; 8 Thou hast put all things in subjection under his
feet." For in subjecting all things to him, He left nothing that is not
subject to him. But now we do not yet see all things subjected to him. 9 But we do see Him who has been
made for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory
and honor, that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone. 10 For it was fitting for Him, for
whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to
glory, to perfect the author of their salvation through sufferings.
(God-Man-Suffering-Savior)
Hebrews 2:14-18 14 Since then the children share
in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through
death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the
devil; 15 and might deliver
those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives. 16 For assuredly He does not give
help to angels, but He gives help to the descendant of Abraham. 17 Therefore, He had to be made
like His brethren in all things, that He might become a merciful and faithful
high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of
the people. 18 For since He
Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the
aid of those who are tempted. (God-Man-Death over devil.)
Colossians 2:14-15
having
canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us and which
was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the
cross. 15 When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public
display of them, having triumphed over them through Him. (God-Man-Cross,
disarmed rulers and authorities, triumph.)
Conclusion: Know First John 3:8 and know the ultimate spiritual
situation.
Ephesians 6:10-20 10 Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the
strength of His might. 11 Put
on the full armor of God, that you may be able to stand firm against the
schemes of the devil. 12 For
our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against
the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.
13 Therefore, take up the full armor of God, that you may be
able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. 14 Stand firm therefore, having
girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of
righteousness, 15 and having
shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 in addition to all, taking up
the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming
missiles of the evil one. 17 And take the helmet of
salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 With all prayer and petition
pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with
all perseverance and petition for all the saints, 19 and pray on my behalf, that utterance may be given to me in the opening
of my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in
chains; that in proclaiming it I may
speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
