Biblical Concept: Reprove, Rebuke, Convict

NAS Matthew 18:15 "And if your brother sins, go and reprove him in private; if he listens to you, you have won your brother.  (Help your spiritual brothers improve over personal sins.  See 18:15-17.)

 

NAS Luke 3:19 But when Herod the tetrarch was reproved by him on account of Herodias, his brother's wife, and on account of all the wicked things which Herod had done,  (Obviously, reprove a despotic leader at your own risk. See 3:18-20.)

 

NAS John 3:20 "For everyone who does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.  (“Exposed” is the same Greek vocabulary word as the others in this study.)  (Obviously, evil people do not like to be reproved, rebuked, exposed.  See 3:16-21.)

 

NAS John 8:46 "Which one of you convicts Me of sin? If I speak truth, why do you not believe Me?  (Do not reprove God.--Jesus to Jews at the Temple.)

 

NAS John 16:8 "And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin, and righteousness, and judgment;  (The Holy Spirit reproves all humans.)

 

NAS Ephesians 5:11 And do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them;  (Do not be deceived [see 5:6] by unbelievers or uninformed believers regarding sin.  See 5:1-21 for examples.)

 

NAS Ephesians 5:13 But all things become visible when they are exposed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light.  (See above.)

 

NAS 1 Timothy 5:20 Those who continue in sin, rebuke in the presence of all, so that the rest also may be fearful of sinning.  (Rebuke sinning elders. See 5:17.)

 

NAS 2 Timothy 4:2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction.  (Preach the reproving, rebuking word of God.)

 

NAS Titus 1:9 holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, that he may be able both to exhort in sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict. (Refute those who contradict God’s word.) 

 

NAS Titus 1:13 This testimony is true. For this cause reprove them severely that they may be sound in the faith,  (Reprove false teachers.  See 1:10-16.)

 

NAS Titus 2:15 These things speak and exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no one disregard you.  (Authoritatively teach God’s word.  See the context of 2:11-15.)

 

NAS Hebrews 12:5 and you have forgotten the exhortation which is addressed to you as sons, "MY SON, DO NOT REGARD LIGHTLY THE DISCIPLINE OF THE LORD, NOR FAINT WHEN YOU ARE REPROVED BY HIM;  (Do not get mad at God because He will not let you waste your spiritual life.  See 12:1-13.)

 

NAS James 2:9 But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors.  (Avoid the conviction of spiritual bias for the rich.  See 2:1-9.)

 

NAS Jude 1:15 to execute judgment upon all, and to convict all the ungodly of all their ungodly deeds which they have done in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him."  (Second Advent judgment [see 1:14b] and conviction.)

 

NAS Revelation 3:19 'Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline; be zealous therefore, and repent.  (To the Church in Laodicea.  See 3:14-22.)

 

NAS 2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;  (The Scriptures reprove to improve.  See 3:10-17.)

 

NAS 2 Peter 2:16 but he received a rebuke for his own transgression; for a dumb donkey, speaking with a voice of a man, restrained the madness of the prophet.  (Spiritual reversionism gets Divine rebuke.  See 2:15.)

 

NAS Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.  (Faith = the confidence of conviction. See Biblical Concept: We Just Know We Are Spiritually Right.)
