Biblical Concept: Patience

 

Vocabulary:

 

·       Makrothumeo - Makro = long, thumeo = anger = “long to anger.” 

·       Hupomeno - Hupo = under, meno = to remain = to stay, remain, endure, dwell (etc.) = “to remain under.”

·       Anexikakos - Anexi from anechomai  = to have again, kakos = evil = “patient under evil.”  2 Timothy 2:24 only.

·       Anechomai - Ana = again, echomai = to have = “to have again.”

1 Corinthians 13:4, Love is patient (makrothumeo).

1 Thessalonians 5:14, Impersonal inclusive patience (makrothumeo). Also Colossians 3:12-13 (“patience” =

        makrothumeo in verse 12, “bearing with” = anechomai  in verse 13)

Hebrews 6:15, The example of Abraham’s patience (makrothumeo).

James 5:7-8, Eschatology and patience (makrothumeo).  Luke 21:19 (hupomeno), Romans 8:25 (hupomeno).

James 5:10, The example of prophets and patience (makrothumeo).
