Biblical Concept: Meno in First John

 

Introduction:

 

Meno = “to stay, abide, remain.”

 

The Apostle John uses meno 24 times in First John.  Of interest, he uses it 40 times in his Gospel.  Of the times meno is used in the New Testament, 60% of the time it is by Apostle John. The last living of the 12 original Apostles, wanted the growing Christian Church to abide onward in Christ.

 

Findings:

 

Abide obligation.

Relationship: Abides, obligation, walk, manner.

Love, abides, stumbling not.

“the word of God abides in you”

Relationship: Strong, word abides, overcome.

Abide security.

Remain / abide failure.

Relationship: Heard, abide.

“He who does not love abides in death.”

Sanctified idealism: “no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.”

“one who keeps His commandments abides in Him”

“if we love one another, God abides in us”

Abide, Spirit, relationship.

Belief, abide relationship.

“God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.”

Mutual abiding.

NAS 1 John 2:6 the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked. (Abide obligation.) (Relationship: Abides, obligation, walk, manner.)

 

NAS 1 John 2:10 The one who loves his brother abides in the light and there is no cause for stumbling in him. (“abides in the light”) (Love, abides, stumbling not.)

 

NAS 1 John 2:14 I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one. NAS 1 John 2:17 And the world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God abides forever. (Abide security.)

 

NAS 1 John 2:19 They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, in order that it might be shown that they all are not of us. (Remain / abide failure.)

 

NAS 1 John 2:24 As for you, let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father. (Relationship: Heard, abide.) (Heard, abide, success.)

 

NAS 1 John 2:27 And as for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him. (Anointing, abides, teaches.)
