Biblical Concept: Jesus, King of the Jews

Prologue: In my day, if you say, “Jesus is King,” you may be labeled as using antisemitic hate speech.  Not kidding, no hyperbole, not exaggerating.  The following is a collection of hate, so ((they)) say…

Jesus, King of the Jews

NAS Matthew 2:2 "Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east, and have come to worship Him."

NAS Matthew 27:11 Now Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor questioned Him, saying, "Are You the King of the Jews?" And Jesus said to him, "It is as you say."

29 And after weaving a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand; and they kneeled down before Him and mocked Him, saying, "Hail, King of the Jews!"

37 And they put up above His head the charge against Him which read, "THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS."

NAS Mark 15:2 And Pilate questioned Him, "Are You the King of the Jews?" And answering He said to him, "It is as you say."

9 And Pilate answered them, saying, "Do you want me to release for you the King of the Jews?"

12 And answering again, Pilate was saying to them, "Then what shall I do with Him whom you call the King of the Jews?"

18 and they began to acclaim Him, "Hail, King of the Jews!"

26 And the inscription of the charge against Him read, "THE KING OF THE JEWS."

NAS Luke 23:3 And Pilate asked Him, saying, "Are You the King of the Jews?" And He answered him and said, "It is as you say."

37 and saying, "If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself!"

38 Now there was also an inscription above Him, "THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS."

NAS John 1:49 Nathanael answered Him, "Rabbi, You are the Son of God; You are the King of Israel."

NAS John 6:15 Jesus therefore perceiving that they were intending to come and take Him by force, to make Him king, withdrew again to the mountain by Himself alone.

NAS John 12:13 took the branches of the palm trees, and went out to meet Him, and began to cry out, "Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel."

NAS John 12:15 "Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your King is coming, seated on a donkey's colt."

NAS John 18:33 Pilate therefore entered again into the Praetorium, and summoned Jesus, and said to Him, "Are You the King of the Jews?"

NAS John 18:37 Pilate therefore said to Him, "So You are a king?" Jesus answered, "You say correctly that I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice."

39 "But you have a custom, that I should release someone for you at the Passover; do you wish then that I release for you the King of the Jews?"

NAS John 19:3 and they began to come up to Him, and say, "Hail, King of the Jews!" and to give Him blows in the face.

12 As a result of this Pilate made efforts to release Him, but the Jews cried out, saying, "If you release this Man, you are no friend of Caesar; everyone who makes himself out to be a king opposes Caesar."

14 Now it was the day of preparation for the Passover; it was about the sixth hour. And he said to the Jews, "Behold, your King!"

NAS John 19:15 They therefore cried out, "Away with Him, away with Him, crucify Him!" Pilate said to them, "Shall I crucify your King?" The chief priests answered, "We have no king but Caesar."

19 And Pilate wrote an inscription also, and put it on the cross. And it was written, "JESUS THE NAZARENE, THE KING OF THE JEWS."

21 And so the chief priests of the Jews were saying to Pilate, "Do not write, 'The King of the Jews'; but that He said, 'I am King of the Jews.'"

NAS Acts 17:7 and Jason has welcomed them, and they all act contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, Jesus."

1. Rather than submitting to restrictions concerning Biblical Free Speech, make Jews jealous…

NAS Romans 10:19 But I say, surely Israel did not know, did they? At the first Moses says, "I will make you jealous by that which is not a nation, By a nation without understanding will I anger you."

NAS Romans 11:11 I say then, they did not stumble so as to fall, did they? May it never be! But by their transgression salvation has come to the Gentiles, to make them jealous.

NAS Romans 11:14 if somehow I might move to jealousy my fellow countrymen and save some of them.

NAS Acts 13:45 But when the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy, and began contradicting the things spoken by Paul, and were blaspheming.

NAS Acts 17:5 But the Jews, becoming jealous and taking along some wicked men from the market place, formed a mob and set the city in an uproar; and coming upon the house of Jason, they were seeking to bring them out to the people.

2, Paul calls Jews spiritual enemies.

NAS Romans 11:28 From the standpoint of the gospel they are enemies for your sake, but from the standpoint of God's choice they are beloved for the sake of the fathers;

NAS 1 Corinthians 15:25 For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet.

NAS Philippians 3:18 For many walk, of whom I often told you, and now tell you even weeping, that they are enemies of the cross of Christ,

NAS Hebrews 1:13 But to which of the angels has He ever said, "Sit at My right hand, Until I make Thine enemies A footstool for Thy feet "?

NAS Hebrews 10:13 waiting from that time onward until His enemies be made a footstool for His feet.

NAS 2 Corinthians 3:14-17 14 But their minds were hardened; for until this very day at the reading of the old covenant the same veil remains unlifted, because it is removed in Christ.  15 But to this day whenever Moses is read, a veil lies over their heart; 16 but whenever a man turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.  17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

NAS Acts 24:5 "For we have found this man a real pest and a fellow who stirs up dissension among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes.

3. Jews expelled by Claudius.

NAS Acts 18:2  And he found a certain Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, having recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had commanded all the Jews to leave Rome. He came to them, (Suetonius, in the life of Claudius, speaks of this decree in the ninth year of his reign, and says, The reason was because the Jews were a turbulent people--assiduo tumultuantes)

Similar expulsions happened throughout history.  Note Luther’s comment: ”then let us emulate the common sense of other nations such as France, Spain, Bohemia, etc., … then eject them forever from the country …"

4. We live in the times of the Gentiles

NAS Luke 21:24  and they will fall by the edge of the sword, and will be led captive into all the nations; and Jerusalem will be trampled under foot by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

NAS Acts 15:14, "Simeon has related how God first concerned Himself about taking from among the Gentiles a people for His name.

NAS Romans 11:25, For I do not want you, brethren, to be uninformed of this mystery, lest you be wise in your own estimation, that a partial hardening has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in;

NAS Galatians 3:8, And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, "ALL THE NATIONS SHALL BE BLESSED IN YOU."

5. Expose the Talmud

“THE Talmud teaches that Jesus Christ was illegitimate and was conceived during menstruation; that he had the soul of Esau; that he was a fool, a conjurer, a seducer; that he was crucified, buried in hell and set up as an idol ever since by his followers.” (THE TALMUD UNMASKED, page 11.)

6. Judeo-Christian Myth

The term Judeo-Christian did not exist until about 20 years before World War Two.  It became popular during the Cold War Era in the struggle against Godless Communism.

From one Jewish writer named Emily Burak:

“The Myth of ‘Judeo-Christianity,’ Explained

Not only is the term "Judeo-Christian" inaccurate, it's also antisemitic and Islamophobic.”

7.There is the great organization Jews for Jesus but also a more prolific Jews against Jesus in diverse forms.  The latter groups often employ cancel culture and speech codes and accusations of antisemitism.

8. Jewish evangelism

NAS Luke 24:27 And beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures. (King Jesus evangelizes.)

NAS Luke 24:44 Now He said to them, "These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled." (King Jesus evangelizes.)

NAS 1 Corinthians 1:23-24 but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block, and to Gentiles foolishness, 24 but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

NAS Acts 9:22 But Saul kept increasing in strength and confounding the Jews who lived at Damascus by proving that this Jesus is the Christ.

9. Gentile equals

NAS Romans 3:29, Or is God the God of Jews only? Is He not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also,

NAS 1 Peter 2:5 you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

NAS 1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 for you once were not a people, but now you are the people of God; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

10. Jesus Messiah

Daniel 9:25-26 25 "So you are to know and discern that from the issuing of a decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince there will be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; it will be built again, with plaza and moat, even in times of distress.  26 "Then after the sixty-two weeks the Messiah will be cut off and have nothing, and the people of the prince who is to come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. And its end will come with a flood; even to the end there will be war; desolations are determined.

John 1:41 He found first his own brother Simon, and said to him, "We have found the Messiah " (which translated means Christ).

John 4:25 The woman said to Him, "I know that Messiah is coming (He who is called Christ); when that One comes, He will declare all things to us."

11. The Future

NAS Zechariah 12:10 "And I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace and of supplication, so that they will look on Me whom they have pierced; and they will mourn for Him, as one mourns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him, like the bitter weeping over a first-born.

NAS Jeremiah 29:7 'And seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the LORD on its behalf; for in its welfare you will have welfare.'
