Biblical Concept: Helpless

Note: These are all the verses containing the translation helpless in the NASB.

Prologue: As a pastor-teacher for Christ’s Church, the Romans 5:6 reference below interests me most.

NAS Exodus 23:5 "If you see the donkey of one who hates you lying helpless under its load, you shall refrain from leaving it to him, you shall surely release it with him.

NAS Nehemiah 5:5 "And now our flesh is like the flesh of our brothers, our children like their children. Yet behold, we are forcing our sons and our daughters to be slaves, and some of our daughters are forced into bondage already, and we are helpless because our fields and vineyards belong to others."

NAS Job 5:16 "So the helpless has hope, And unrighteousness must shut its mouth.

NAS Psalm 41:1 For the choir director. A Psalm of David. How blessed is he who considers the helpless; The LORD will deliver him in a day of trouble.

NAS Isaiah 14:30 "And those who are most helpless will eat, And the needy will lie down in security; I will destroy your root with famine, And it will kill off your survivors.

NAS Isaiah 25:4 For Thou hast been a defense for the helpless, A defense for the needy in his distress, A refuge from the storm, a shade from the heat; For the breath of the ruthless Is like a rain storm against a wall.

NAS Isaiah 26:6 "The foot will trample it, The feet of the afflicted, the steps of the helpless."

NAS Isaiah 51:20 Your sons have fainted, They lie helpless at the head of every street, Like an antelope in a net, Full of the wrath of the LORD, The rebuke of your God.

NAS Jeremiah 49:24 "Damascus has become helpless; She has turned away to flee, And panic has gripped her; Distress and pangs have taken hold of her Like a woman in childbirth.

NAS Amos 2:7 "These who pant after the very dust of the earth on the head of the helpless Also turn aside the way of the humble; And a man and his father resort to the same girl In order to profane My holy name.

NAS Amos 8:6 So as to buy the helpless for money And the needy for a pair of sandals, And that we may sell the refuse of the wheat?"

NAS Romans 5:6 For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.  (Humanity is helpless and ungodly.  It took the Christ to change this status.) (Still has a present active plural verbal inflection and describes a continual helpless status for humanity.) (See all of chapter 5 for the helpless context.) (Compare the Biblical Concept: Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ for Eternal Life.) (Compare the Biblical Concept: Stop Working for Eternal Salvation.)
