Biblical Concept: God, Sorry

Genesis 6:5-7   5 Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.  6 And the LORD was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.  7 And the LORD said, "I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky; for I am sorry that I have made them."

Observations:

Situation: Post fall, pre flood, humanity.

Note Genesis 6:11-12: 11 Now the earth was corrupt in the sight of God, and the earth was filled with violence.  12 And God looked on the earth, and behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way upon the earth.

God is sorry not surprised at human volitional mayhem.  God’s desire to create sentient volitional beings has primacy over the volitional mayhem.  Our omniscient God always knew volitional rebellion would happen, but He did not allow it to rob Him of His desire to create volitional beings.

Situation: Angelic influences: Genesis 3:1-7; lies, temptation, deception. Genesis 3:14-15; Angelic oppression of women and children. Genesis 6:2-4, Angelic genetic corruption of the human species. Compare Jude 6-7 and 2 Peter 2:4-5.

Situation: Humanity obtained a nature to sin. See Genesis 3:7 and 4:6-7.  See 1 John 3:12 for a possible Satanic influence on Cain.

God, sorry is a just response to the mayhem of angelic and human volition.  To get to an eternal future final state with sinless volitional beings, is a messy process.  Compare the Biblical Concept: The Best Is Yet To Come.

See Genesis 6:5-6 in the Biblical Concept: The Linear Aspect of God.  Here is the conclusion: “Instead of a flaw in God’s omniscience / plan / thinking, the linear reality aspect of God is on display.”

Note: Proverbs 16:4 The LORD has made everything for its own purpose, Even the wicked for the day of evil.  (Meaning: God created free will creatures and some of them became wicked.) (God is resolving the inevitable free will sin problem in the beings He has created.)  (Hebrews 2:14-18  14 Since then the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil;  15 and might deliver those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives.  16 For assuredly He does not give help to angels, but He gives help to the descendant of Abraham.  17 Therefore, He had to be made like His brethren in all things, that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.  18 For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted.)

See: Deuteronomy 32:39 'See now that I, I am He, And there is no god besides Me; It is I who put to death and give life. I have wounded, and it is I who heal; And there is no one who can deliver from My hand. (God is Sovereign.)

See: Isaiah 43:7 Everyone who is called by My name, And whom I have created for My glory, Whom I have formed, even whom I have made."  (God’s desire for glory has priority over His sorrow.)
