Hina / i[na – a conjunction denoting purpose, aim, or goal “in order that, that.  This study will look at hina clauses in First John, which are used to note: writing, theological, and applicative purposes.

1 John 2:27-28  27 And as for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him.  28 And now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He appears, we may have confidence and not shrink away from Him in shame at His coming. 1 John 5:16 If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask and God will for him give life to those who commit sin not leading to death. There is a sin leading to death; I do not say that he should make request for this. (Purpose not request.)

1 John 5:20 And we know that (hoti) the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding, in order that we might know Him who is true, and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life. (Purpose know Him who is true.)
