Biblical Concept: First John Purpose Clauses




Hina / i[na – a conjunction denoting purpose, aim, or goal “in order that, that.  This study will look at hina clauses in First John, which are used to note: writing, theological, and applicative purposes.




Purpose fellowship.

Purpose joy.

Purpose forgive.

Purpose not sin.

Purpose shown not of us.

Purpose anointed teaching.

Purpose appears confidence.

Purpose called children of God.

Purpose appeared.

Purpose devil destroy.

Purpose love.

Purpose believe.

Purpose live.

Purpose confidence.

Purpose love God love brother.

Purpose keep commandments.

Purpose know eternal life.

Purpose not request.

Purpose know Him who is true.

1 John 1:3-4   3 what we have seen and heard we proclaim to you also, that you also may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ.  4 And these things we write, so that our joy may be made complete. (Purpose fellowship.) (Purpose joy.)

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (Purpose forgive.)

1 John 2:1 My little children, I am writing these things to you that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; (Purpose not sin.)

1 John 2:19 They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, in order that it might be shown that they all are not of us. (Purpose shown not of us.)

1 John 2:27-28  27 And as for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him.  28 And now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He appears, we may have confidence and not shrink away from Him in shame at His coming. 1 John 4:17 By this, love is perfected with us, that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; because as He is, so also are we in this world. (Purpose confidence.)

1 John 4:21 And this commandment we have from Him, that the one who loves God should love his brother also. (Purpose love God love brother.)

1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome. (Purpose keep commandments.)

1 John 5:13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you may know that you have eternal life. (Purpose know eternal life.)

1 John 5:16 If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask and God will for him give life to those who commit sin not leading to death. There is a sin leading to death; I do not say that he should make request for this. (Purpose not request.)

1 John 5:20 And we know that (hoti) the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding, in order that we might know Him who is true, and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life. (Purpose know Him who is true.)
