Biblical Concept: Fear / Afraid

Observations:

The fear / afraid vocabulary comes to 33 pages of examples—a large subject.

On these 33 pages, “fear God” is a very large theme.  God wants / requires volitional creatures to fear Him.  Why?  The consequence for not fearing the God of the Bible is this: “But I will warn you whom to fear: fear the One who after He has killed has authority to cast into hell; yes, I tell you, fear Him!

Human fear is a large theme.  Humans are innately afraid of pain and death.  For the human, fear is a bit paradoxical / situational:  On the one hand, God commands us to not fear men, but on the other hand, when confronted with someone that can kill us, fear is a normal response.  Or: On the one hand, we are to love God, but on the other hand, we are to fear Him.  Note this: “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.”  Or for example, the Apostles are noted to have various fears in their lives: “For even when we came into Macedonia our flesh had no rest, but we were afflicted on every side: conflicts without, fears within.”  “But I am afraid, lest as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds should be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ.” “For this reason, when I could endure it no longer, I also sent to find out about your faith, for fear that the tempter might have tempted you, and our labor should be in vain.”  Fear is a difficult subject / challenge for humans.
