Biblical Concept: Enoch

Findings: Enoch lived very early in human history, 7th generation from Adam, in the Post-fall, Pre-flood, Gentile, Patriarchal-Family-Era of Biblical History. The environment and a more pure gene pool resulted in longer life-spans.  God interacted vocally with individuals during this pre-organized Biblical Religion era.  Grammatical features demonstrate that Enoch was personally intense / insistent in his pursuit of God.  Enoch is noted to be faithful, pleasing, and prophetic. It was Enoch’s unique spiritual destiny to skip physical death and be taken directly to heaven.  In the Biblical record, only Enoch, Elijah, and Rapture Generation Christians have this unique spiritual skip-death-destiny.  Enoch is part of the genealogy of Jesus Christ.

NAS Genesis 4:17 And Cain had relations with his wife and she conceived, and gave birth to Enoch; and he built a city, and called the name of the city Enoch, after the name of his son.

18 Now to Enoch was born Irad; and Irad became the father of Mehujael; and Mehujael became the father of Methushael; and Methushael became the father of Lamech.

(Genesis 4:17-18 comments: The worldly Enoch had an earthly city named for him.  The spiritual Enoch, below, went to the heavenly dwelling of God.  Spiritual trumps worldly.)

NAS Genesis 5:18 And Jared lived one hundred and sixty-two years, and became the father of Enoch.

19 Then Jared lived eight hundred years after he became the father of Enoch, and he had other sons and daughters.

21 And Enoch lived sixty-five years, and became the father of Methuselah.

22 Then Enoch walked with God three hundred years after he became the father of Methuselah, and he had other sons and daughters.

23 So all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five years.

24 And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.

(Genesis 5:22-24 contextual comments: Enoch lived during the Post-fall, Pre-flood, Gentile, Patriarchal-Family-Era of Biblical History.  That is, before the call of the Mesopotamian Abram.  That is, before the Hebrew / Jewish / Israel / Mosaic experience / history.  That is, before an official earthly Divine Dwelling / Arc / Tabernacle / Temple on earth / dangerous Divine proximity presence experience.  The environment and a more pure gene pool resulted in longer life spans.)

(Genesis 5:22-24 grammatical comments: “Enoch” / %Anx] (Chanok) / from a root word meaning: “to instruct, initiate. If names mean things?, perhaps Enoch pursued a special instruction and initiation from God?  Perhaps Enoch is a name representing positive volition toward God?  “Walked” in 5:22 and 5:24 utilizes the Hithpael inflection, which is intensive reflexive.  Walked himself’ is the idea.  Again, positive volition is presented.  Enoch, himself, intensely pursued walking with God. Compare the “by faith” Enoch notation in Hebrews 11:5. In the Post-fall, Pre-flood, Gentile, Patriarchal-Family-Era of Biblical History God communicated with humans in audible fashions (Note Genesis 4:26.).  Perhaps Enoch was insistent that God stay in consistent communication with him?  Thus, in Hebrews 11:5b and Jude 1:14, Enoch is noted to have pleased and prophesied regarding God.)

(Compare Elijah’s whirlwind entry to heaven in 2 Kings 2:11.)

NAS 1 Chronicles 1:3 Enoch, Methuselah, Lamech,

NAS Luke 3:37 the son of Methuselah, the son of Enoch, the son of Jared, the son of Mahalaleel, the son of Cainan, (Enoch is part of the genealogy of Jesus Christ.)

NAS Hebrews 11:5 By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death; and he was not found because God took him up; for he obtained the witness that before his being taken up he was pleasing to God.

NAS Jude 1:14 And about these also Enoch, in the seventh generation from Adam, prophesied, saying, "Behold, the Lord came with many thousands of His holy ones,  (During the Post-fall, Pre-flood, Gentile, Patriarchal-Family, pre organized Biblical Religion, era; personal reception of prophecy was an important part of the religion.) (Speculation: I wonder if the Gentile Priest Melchizedek came from the line of Enoch?)
