Biblical Concept: Dimensional Sight Shifting
JC in Gospels hiding from crowds / Emmaus disciples
Luke 4:25-30 25 "But I say to you in truth, there were many
widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the sky was shut up for three years
and six months, when a great famine came over all the land; 26 and yet Elijah was sent to none
of them, but only to Zarephath, in the land of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow. 27 "And there were many
lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet; and none of them was
cleansed, but only Naaman the Syrian." 28 And all in the synagogue were
filled with rage as they heard these things;
29 and they rose up and cast Him out of the city, and led Him
to the brow of the hill on which their city had been built, in order to throw
Him down the cliff. 30 But
(Himself - in the Greek) passing through their midst, He went His way.
John 8:57-59 57The Jews therefore said to Him, "You are not
yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?" 58 Jesus said to them,
"Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am." 59 Therefore they picked up stones
to throw at Him; but Jesus hid (indicative aorist passive = was hidden)
Himself, and went out of the temple.
Luke 24:13-32 13
And behold, two of them were going that very day to a village named Emmaus,
which was about seven miles from Jerusalem.
14 And they were conversing with each other about all these
things which had taken place. 15
And it came about that while they were conversing and discussing, Jesus Himself
approached, and began traveling with
them. 16 But their eyes were
prevented (indicative imperfect passive / received
prevention / were unempowered / received unempowerment) from recognizing Him. 17 And He said to them, "What
are these words that you are exchanging with one another as you are
walking?" And they stood still, looking sad. 18 And one of them, named Cleopas, answered and said to Him, "Are You the only
one visiting Jerusalem and unaware of the things which have happened here in
these days?" 19 And He
said to them, "What things?" And they said to Him, "The things
about Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word in the
sight of God and all the people, 20
and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him up to the sentence of
death, and crucified Him. 21
"But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel. Indeed,
besides all this, it is the third day since these things happened. 22 "But also some women among
us amazed us. When they were at the tomb early in the morning, 23 and did not find His body, they
came, saying that they had also seen a vision of angels, who said that He was
alive. 24 "And some of
those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just exactly as the women
also had said; but Him they did not see."
25 And He said to them, "O foolish men and slow of heart
to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! 26 "Was it not necessary for
the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into His glory?" 27 And beginning with Moses and
with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in
all the Scriptures. 28 And
they approached the village where they were going, and He acted as though He
would go farther. 29 And they
urged Him, saying, "Stay with us, for it is getting toward evening, and the day is now nearly over." And
He went in to stay with them. 30
And it came about that when He had reclined at
the table with them, He took the bread and blessed it, and breaking it, He began giving it to them. 31
And their eyes were opened (indicative aorist passive = received opening) and
they recognized Him; and He vanished (kai. auvto.j a;fantoj evge, neto avpV auvtw/n / and He vanished He Himself
became [indicative present middle] from them) from their sight. 32 And they said to one another,
"Were not our hearts burning within us while He was speaking to us on the
road, while He was explaining the Scriptures to us?"
Angel of the Lord
Numbers 22:20-35 20 And God came to Balaam at night and said to him, "If the men have come to call you, rise up and go with them; but only the word which I speak to you shall you do." 21 So Balaam arose in the morning, and saddled his donkey, and went with the leaders of Moab. 22 But God was angry because he was going, and the angel of the LORD took his stand in the way as an adversary against him. Now he was riding on his donkey and his two servants were with him. 23 When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way with his drawn sword in his hand, the donkey turned off from the way and went into the field; but Balaam struck the donkey to turn her back into the way. 24 Then the angel of the LORD stood in a narrow path of the vineyards, with a wall on this side and a wall on that side. 25 When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD, she pressed herself to the wall and pressed Balaam's foot against the wall, so he struck her again. 26 And the angel of the LORD went further, and stood in a narrow place where there was no way to turn to the right hand or the left. 27 When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD, she lay down under Balaam; so Balaam was angry and struck the donkey with his stick. 28 And the LORD opened the mouth of the donkey, and she said to Balaam, "What have I done to you, that you have struck me these three times?" 29 Then Balaam said to the donkey, "Because you have made a mockery of me! If there had been a sword in my hand, I would have killed you by now." 30 And the donkey said to Balaam, "Am I not your donkey on which you have ridden all your life to this day? Have I ever been accustomed to do so to you?" And he said, "No." 31 Then the LORD opened (piel
