Biblical Concept:
Believe
Prologue: Greek vocabulary - Pistis from peitho meaning: “to persuade,” “to
convince.” English translations of the
noun forms of peitho translate it
“faith.” The verbal forms of peitho are translated “believe.” This study looks at the “believe”
translations. (Belief
takes thinking, learning, effort, and education to be “convinced” about the Object
of one’s belief.) (See also Biblical Concept: Faith, all passages.)
Prologue: Believe
is a rather large subject in the Scriptures.
Below are all the NASB passages containing believe vocabulary. (Please
note the “findings” section for various summaries / conclusions.)
Observations: May
believe: Believe and potential. Believe
not. Not believe in Me. Not believe in the LORD their God. Belief malfunction: Followers of Antichrist
instead of God. Not believe and doubt. Belief can overcome fear. Pray, ask, believe. Devil’s not believe plan. Demons know who God is, but reject His

belief. Believers through Christ. Believe vocabulary is found 91 times in the

information. Belief also includes life
after the point of eternal salvation.
Belief has God’s power behind it.

Findings: “May believe: Believe and
potential” is why humans were created.
By Divine design, humans are strongly volitional creatures. God wants humans to believe various spiritual
things. We are puny compared to God and
angels, but, our free will, our believe potential, is strongly part of our
Divine image. What the human believes is
the real, eternal human. What the human
believes results in their eternal destiny.
(What a Divine Plan! What Divine
imagination!) The God of the Bible calls
on humans to believe in Him. Belief
overcomes Divine judgment. Not believe is statistically large. (The percent of the human population who
believes in the Triune God of the Bible, and the God Son Savior Jesus Christ,
probably diminishes with the passage of time?—Not believe.) Satan and 1/3
angels have and promote a not believe plan.
Humans need to discern whether to believe another human. God’s plan is for humans to believe the
things written in a Book (Bible) for eternal life and the spiritual life that
follows—this is a unique imaginative plan!
Mankind’s spiritual role: Believe but not see. God’s plan of eternal salvation in Christ is
inclusive—any and all humans are invited.
The Gospel of John is a Book of
belief: “John 20:31 31
but these have been written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the
Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.” Human belief + Holy Spirit baptism = eternal
salvation. Humanly, what could be better
than the belief / confidence of eternal destiny? Theorem: Son of God + belief = eternal life =
confidence. Proper belief treats God as
holy. Human belief by itself can cause
nothing. Human belief is honored by God
and the baptism of the Holy Spirit insures their salvation. Believed through grace. Care needs to be applied to believe passages
in the Gospels and Acts. The believe
advantages of those days may not be the norm for the post-Apostolic-Church.
