Biblical Concept: Aphorizō
Aphorizō (avfori,zw) – apo = “away from” horizo = “a boundary.”
(Parentheses
are mine.)
NAS Matthew 13:49 "So it will be at the end of the age; the
angels shall come forth, and take out (avfori,zw) the wicked from among the righteous, (Post
millennial take out.)
NAS Matthew 25:32 "And all the nations will be gathered before
Him; and He will separate (avfori,zw) them from one another, as the shepherd separates (avfori,zw) the sheep from the goats; (Post tribulation separation.) (Kingdom entry preparation.)
NAS Luke 6:22 "Blessed are you when men hate you, and
ostracize (avfori,zw) you, and cast insults at you, and spurn your name as evil, for the sake
of the Son of Man. (Jesus, ostracize, relationship.)
NAS Acts 13:2 And while they were ministering to the Lord and
fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart (avfori,zw) for Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I
have called them." (Set apart
apostolic era.)
NAS Acts 19:9 But when some were becoming hardened and
disobedient, speaking evil of the Way before the multitude, he withdrew from
them and took away (avfori,zw) the disciples, reasoning daily in the school of Tyrannus. (Took away to the Way.) (Took away evangelism.)
NAS Romans 1:1 Paul, a bond-servant of Christ Jesus, called as an apostle, set part (avfori,zw) for the gospel of God, (Of note is aphorizo having a
perfect passive inflection. A perfect tense describes “the tense of completed
action, with existing results, in present time.” It is an emphatic way of saying
that something is. The Apostle Paul
had a unique calling and a unique spiritual life—set apart. The passive voice
emphasizes that Paul did not choose this life for himself. The Bible student knows that Paul vigorously
opposed the spiritual life to which he was called!) (The Lord Jesus to Ananias
of Damascus: Acts
9:15-16 15 But the Lord said to him,
"Go, for he is a chosen instrument of Mine, to bear My name before the
Gentiles and kings and the sons of Israel; 16 for I will show him
how much he must suffer for My name's sake.")
NAS 2 Corinthians 6:17 "Therefore, come out from their midst and be
separate (avfori,zw)," says the Lord. "And do not touch what is unclean; And I will
welcome you. (Proper separation from unbelievers.)
NAS Galatians 1:15 But when He who had set me apart (avfori,zw), even from my mother's womb,
and called me through His grace, was pleased (Set apart sovereign grace relationship.)
NAS Galatians 2:12 For prior to the coming of certain men from
James, he used to eat with the Gentiles; but when they came, he began to withdraw and hold himself aloof
(avfori,zw), fearing the party of the circumcision.
(Religion: Improper boundary.)
