Biblical Concept: Paganism[1], Animism[2], Polytheism[3], Religion[4] (wrong God), Agnosticism[5], Atheism[6] – The greatest temporal and eternal threats to individuals and nations.

Introduction

The Multidimensional Triune God of the Bible decided to create volitional creatures--angels. Many of these volitional creatures rebelled and doubt that God is their Creator.  More volitional creatures (humans) were created to document the creative ability of the Multidimensional Triune God of the Bible-- they all rebelled.  To resolve this human volitional rebellion, a Member of the Multidimensional Triune God of the Bible became a Human (Jesus Christ) to die as a Savior for the sins (rebellions) of the humans.  When humans believe in the God Man Jesus Christ as their Savior, rebellious doubt about God as a worthy Creator is resolved.

Biblical Observations

Deuteronomy 4:34-40    35 "To you it was shown that you might know that the LORD, He is God; there is no other besides Him.  36 "Out of the heavens He let you hear His voice to discipline you; and on earth He let you see His great fire, and you heard His words from the midst of the fire.  37 "Because He loved your fathers, therefore He chose their descendants after them. And He personally brought you from Egypt by His great power,  38 driving out from before you nations greater and mightier than you, to bring you in and to give you their land for an inheritance, as it is today.  39 "Know therefore today, and take it to your heart, that the LORD, He is God in heaven above and on the earth below; there is no other.  40 "So you shall keep His statutes and His commandments which I am giving you today, that it may go well with you and with your children after you, and that you may live long on the land which the LORD your God is giving you for all time."

Romans 1:18-32  18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,  19 because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them.  20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.  21 For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God, or give thanks; but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.  22 Professing to be wise, they became fools,  23 and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.  24 Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, that their bodies might be dishonored among them.  25 For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.  26 For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural,  27 and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.  28 And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper,  29 being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips,  30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents,  31 without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful;  32 and, although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.

Acts 17:26-31  26 and He made from one, every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times, and the boundaries of their habitation,  27 that they should seek God, if perhaps they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us;  28 for in Him we live and move and exist, as even some of your own poets have said, 'For we also are His offspring.'  29 "Being then the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by the art and thought of man.  30 "Therefore having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now declaring to men that all everywhere should repent,  31 because He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man whom He has appointed, having furnished proof to all men by raising Him from the dead."

Psalm 2:1-6  1 Why are the nations in an uproar, And the peoples devising a vain thing?  2 The kings of the earth take their stand, And the rulers take counsel together Against the LORD and against His Anointed:  3 "Let us tear their fetters apart, And cast away their cords from us!"  4 He who sits in the heavens laughs, The Lord scoffs at them.  5 Then He will speak to them in His anger And terrify them in His fury:  6 "But as for Me, I have installed My King Upon Zion, My holy mountain."

Psalm 9:17  17 The wicked will return to Sheol, Even all the nations who forget God.

Ezekiel 6:1-14, Judgment on pagan high places in Israel. (The phrase: “know that I am the LORD” is found over 60 times in Ezekiel.  See the summary at the end of the Biblical Concept: God, Jealous.)

2 Samuel 7:23  23 "And what one nation on the earth is like Thy people Israel, whom God went to redeem for Himself as a people and to make a name for Himself, and to do a great thing for Thee and awesome things for Thy land, before Thy people whom Thou hast redeemed for Thyself from Egypt, from nations and their gods?

Ezekiel 6:1-14 1 And the word of the LORD came to me saying,  2 "Son of man, set your face toward the mountains of Israel, and prophesy against them,  3 and say, 'Mountains of Israel, listen to the word of the Lord God! Thus says the Lord God to the mountains, the hills, the ravines and the valleys: "Behold, I Myself am going to bring a sword on you, and I will destroy your high places.  4 "So your altars will become desolate, and your incense altars will be smashed; and I shall make your slain fall in front of your idols.  5 "I shall also lay the dead bodies of the sons of Israel in front of their idols; and I shall scatter your bones around your altars.  6 "In all your dwellings, cities will become waste and the high places will be desolate, that your altars may become waste and desolate, your idols may be broken and brought to an end, your incense altars may be cut down, and your works may be blotted out.  7 "And the slain will fall among you, and you will know that I am the LORD.  8 "However, I shall leave a remnant, for you will have those who escaped the sword among the nations when you are scattered among the countries.  9 "Then those of you who escape will remember Me among the nations to which they will be carried captive, how I have been hurt by their adulterous hearts which turned away from Me, and by their eyes, which played the harlot after their idols; and they will loathe themselves in their own sight for the evils which they have committed, for all their abominations.  10 "Then they will know that I am the LORD; I have not said in vain that I would inflict this disaster on them."'  11 "Thus says the Lord God, 'Clap your hand, stamp your foot, and say, "Alas, because of all the evil abominations of the house of Israel, which will fall by sword, famine, and plague!  12 "He who is far off will die by the plague, and he who is near will fall by the sword, and he who remains and is besieged will die by the famine. Thus shall I spend My wrath on them.  13 "Then you will know that I am the LORD, when their slain are among their idols around their altars, on every high hill, on all the tops of the mountains, under every green tree, and under every leafy oak-- the places where they offered soothing aroma to all their idols.  14 "So throughout all their habitations I shall stretch out My hand against them and make the land more desolate and waste than the wilderness toward Diblah; thus they will know that I am the LORD."'"

[1] Paganism, in the broadest sense includes all religions other than the true one revealed by God, and, in a narrower sense, all except Christianity, Judaism, and Mohammedanism. The term is also used as the equivalent of Polytheism. It is derived from the Latin pagus, whence pagani (i.e. those who live in the country), a name given to the country folk who remained heathen after the cities had become Christian.

[2] Animism (from Latin anima "soul, life") is a philosophical, religious or spiritual idea that souls or spirits exist not only in humans but also in animals, plants, rocks, natural phenomena such as thunder, geographic features such as mountains or rivers, or other entities of the natural environment.

[3] Polytheism is the belief in and worship of many gods. Typically, these gods are distinguished by particular functions, and often take on human characteristics. This was particularly true in ancient Greece and Rome. In other polytheistic cultures such as ancient Egypt, gods take on the form and characteristics of objects found in nature, including trees, sacred herbs, cattle, animals and animal--human hybrids.

[4] See Biblical Concept: Angel Religions.

[5] Agnosticism holds the view that any ultimate reality (as God) is unknown and probably unknowable; broadly: one who is not committed to believing in either the existence or the nonexistence of God or a god.

[6] Atheism, in a broad sense, is the rejection of belief in the existence of deities. In a narrower sense, atheism is specifically the position that there are no deities. Most inclusively, atheism is simply the absence of belief that any deities exist.
