Biblical Concept: Abide
Findings: (From the Bible passages to follow.)
Abide describes the eternal nature of God.
The Word of the Lord abides forever.
Belief in Jesus Christ = abiding in God.
The aide concept teaches that the Holy Spirit eternally abides in the Christ-Believer.
Applying God’s word to your life and abiding are hand in hand.
Keeping God’s Word and abide and love are linked.
Abide in God leads to being fruitful for God.
The abide vocabulary encourages the mature Christ-Believer to keep their spiritual focus in / on Christ.
Abiding = knowing the truth.
Abiding = security for the Christ-Believer’s eternity.
To religious non-Christians: Abiding with God, Who created everything, only
occurs through the Person of Jesus Christ. (I know you have your excuses to the contrary.)

NAS Job 24:13
"Others have been with those who rebel against the light; They do not want
to know its ways, Nor abide in its paths.

NAS 1 John 3:17 But
whoever has the world's goods, and beholds his brother in need and closes his
heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him?
NAS 1 John 4:13 By this
we know that we abide in Him and He in us, because He has given us of
His Spirit. (The Holy Spirit abides in the Believer.)
NAS 2 John 1:9 Anyone
who goes too far and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not
have God; the one who abides in the teaching, he has both the Father and the
Son.
Abides
NAS Leviticus 16:16
"And he shall make atonement for the holy place, because of the impurities
of the sons of Israel, and because of their transgressions, in regard to all
their sins; and thus he shall do for the tent of meeting which abides with them
in the midst of their impurities.
NAS Psalm 9:7 But the
LORD abides forever; He has established His throne for judgment,
NAS Psalm 125:1 A
Song of Ascents. Those who trust in the LORD Are as Mount Zion, which
cannot be moved, but abides forever.
NAS John 3:36 "He
who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son
shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him."
NAS John 6:56 "He
who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him.
NAS John 14:17 that
is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not
behold Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you, and
will be in you. (The Holy Spirit abides in the Believer.)
NAS John 15:4 "Abide
in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it
abides in the vine, so neither can you, unless you abide in Me.
5 "I am the vine,
you are the branches; he who abides in Me, and I in him, he bears much fruit;
for apart from Me you can do nothing. (Abide in God leads to being fruitful for
God.)
NAS 2 Corinthians 9:9 as
it is written, "He scattered abroad, he gave to the poor, His
righteousness abides forever."
NAS Hebrews 7:3 Without
father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor
end of life, but made like the Son of God, he abides a priest perpetually.
24 but He, on the
other hand, because He abides forever, holds His priesthood permanently.
NAS James 1:25 But one
who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides
by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man
shall be blessed in what he does.
NAS 1 Peter 1:25 But the
word of the Lord abides forever." And this is the word which was
preached to you.
NAS 1 John 2:6 the one
who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He
walked.
10 The one who loves
his brother abides in the light and there is no cause for stumbling in him.

written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God
abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one.
17 And the world is
passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of
God abides forever.
24 As for you, let
that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from
the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father.
(Keep on abiding.)
27 And as for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in

has taught you, you abide in Him.
(Abiding = knowing the truth.)
NAS 1 John 3:6 No one
who abides in Him sins; no one who sins has seen Him or knows Him. (See the
context of 3:3-9: Unbelievers and Believers contrasted.) (A Greek reading
audience would read, word for word, verse 6 as follows: “Any one in Him
continually abiding, not continually sins; any one the continual [perfect tense
= past, present, future] sinner not has seen Him not has known [perfect tense =
past, present, future] Him.”) (Compare 1 John 1:5-10.) (John is saying know
that unbelievers do not abide with God.)
(1 John is a book about knowing.)
9 No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in
him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. (Unbelievers and Believers
contrasted.)
14 We know that we
have passed out of death into life, because we love the brethren. He who does
not love abides in death. (Unbelievers and Believers contrasted.)
24 And the one who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him.
And we know by this that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.
(Abiding = knowing the truth.) (The Holy Spirit abides in the Believer.)
NAS 1 John 4:12 No one
has beheld God at any time; if we love one another, God abides in us, and His
love is perfected in us.
15 Whoever confesses
that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. (Belief
in Jesus Christ = abiding in God.)
16 And we have come to
know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one
who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. (The
relationship between love and abide.)
NAS 2 John 1:2 for the sake of the truth which abides in us and will be with us
forever: (The Word of the Lord abides
forever.)
9 Anyone who goes too
far and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God; the
one who abides in the teaching, he has both the Father and the Son. (See verses
7-11, deceivers distort Christ.)
Abiding
NAS Haggai 2:5 'As for
the promise which I made you when you came out of Egypt, My Spirit is abiding
in your midst; do not fear!'
NAS John 5:38 "And
you do not have His word abiding in you, for you do not believe Him whom He
sent.
NAS John 14:10 "Do
you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words
that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding
in Me does His works. (Father God abides in Jesus.)
25 "These things
I have spoken to you, while abiding with you.
NAS Hebrews 10:34 For
you showed sympathy to the prisoners, and accepted joyfully the seizure of your
property, knowing that you have for yourselves a better possession and an
abiding one. (Eternal abiding promise.)
NAS 1 Peter 1:23 for you have been born again not of seed
which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and
abiding word of God. (The Word of the Lord abides forever.)
NAS 1 John 3:15 Everyone
who hates his brother is a murderer; and you know that no murderer has eternal
life abiding in him. (Unbelievers do not abide.)
